BlackRock sought us out to develop a virtual environment that would provide a compelling visual and narrative framework for their annual client conference at the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York. We developed a staging concept seamlessly married the ornate architecture of the ballroom with a custom-built trompe-l’oeil virtual environment projected on a LED screen that spanned one entire end of the ballroom. The design incorporated the untouched interior of the ballroom, as well as a virtual recreation of the ballroom architecture. The virtual recreation is able to dynamically deconstruct and reconstruct to reveal or hide a dramatic New York cityscape with embedded speaker presentations and other meeting content. Occupying and blurring the boundary between the real and the virtual, the stage set serves as a portal through which the audience can transition back and forth from the present to a future vision – all the while discussing current day realities and the road ahead.
